Session 1 (Richard Sweeney)

Today we had the privilege of working with Richard Sweeney, A paper sculptor/Artist.

Today's session was all about manipulating paper by cutting, scoring, folding ect without using any glue.
It was interesting to think about ways to stick paper together other than using the common ways like glue, and tape.

I started of by cutting strips into a piece of  A5 paper along one side of the page
with a scalpel and no ruler to get a rough edge,

I then started to cut small slits into the opposite side of the paper to the strips
and weaved the strips through the small slits and repeated this with every strip.

I then started to make something a little less experimental using the same method to create a more structured and planned piece of sculptural work.

The core of everything.

I recently looked at the work of Peter Callesen.
He explores paper and uses it to manipulate and make art from what he says is,
'the most common and consumed media used for carrying information today'

This piece (The core of everything) I particularly like because It's so simple and uses nothing but paper to create something with a lot of character.

Peter Callesen

The work of Peter Callesen is very creative and different, But so simple, He manipulates paper in a clever way by using anything he cuts from the paper to create his piece.
